The Sixth ChulaVRC Vaccine Research Forum 2022: “mRNA/LNP Technology: The Discovery for Global Health”
On Tuesday, January 25th 2022, Chula Vaccine Research Center and the School of Global Health, Faculty of Medicine, in collaboration with the Office of International Affairs and Global Network, Chulalongkorn University, hosted an online seminar on the 6th ChulaVRC Vaccine Research Forum 2022 “mRNA/LNP Technology: The Discovery for Global Health” at the Bhumisiri Mangkhalanusorn Building, 12th Floor, the KCMH & Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University.
This seminar was honoured by three invited speakers who have contributions to the development of COVID-19 mRNA vaccines:
- Associate Professor Katalin Karikó Ph.D., Senior Vice President, BioNTech RNA Pharmaceuticals and Adjunct Associate Professor Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania
- Professor Drew Weissman M.D., Ph.D., Director of Vaccine Research, Infectious Diseases Division and Professor, Department of Medicine, Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania
- Professor Pieter Cullis Ph.D., Professor, Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, University of British Columbia
The seminar commenced with the congratulatory remarks to the invited speakers on their being presented with the 2021 Prince Mahidol Award in Medicine by Assoc. Prof. Chanchai Sittipunt, M.D., Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University and it was attended by Nakorn Premsri, M.D., Director of the National Vaccine Institute (NVI), Prof. Suttipong Wacharasindhu, M.D., Chairman of the World Health School Board, and Prof. Kiat Ruxrungtham, M.D., Director of the Chula Vaccine Research Center, Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University.

The aims of the seminar were to enhance the knowledge and experience in mRNA and Lipid nanoparticle technology through the following topics: “Discovery to Clinical Use,” “Beyond the COVID-19 Vaccine,” and “Development and Future of LNP,” and to foster collaboration between Chula researchers and national as well as international researchers so as to conduct research in the area of “mRNA technology”.
This seminar received much attention from and was participated by researchers and academic staff from Chulalongkorn University and partner universities/research organizations, via both an on-site and an online platform. During the seminar, the attendees also had the chance to ask questions to the speakers.
