International Arts Talk on How Pandemics Fuel Linguistic Change
This coming Tuesday, August 30, the Faculty of Arts invites you to our XIV International Arts Talk on How Pandemics Fuel Linguistic Change: Coronalexicon in L1 and L2 English Varieties. Speakers, Pura, Gustilo, and Beirmeier will present their findings on new words that arose during the periods of the pandemic.
The result reflects that fact that English language has always been flooded with new words and meanings resulting from international crises, such as wars and diseases. The fight for life during pandemics is another kind of crisis that opens the door for neologisms in the English language.
