APRU Virtual Student Exchange
APRU-VSE
The APRU, a network of 60 leading universities in the Americas, Asia and Australasia, brings to its students an exclusive opportunity to connect with peers from the member universities so as to learn new knowledge and skills, exchange ideas and cultures, and develop connections vital for success in the 21st Century.
The APRU Virtual Student Exchange (VSE) Program, led by The Chinese University of Hong Kong, makes international education accessible by allowing students to take academic courses and participate in co-curricular programs without the need to leave home. It opens up international education for all students by providing an immersive virtual student exchange experience through digital technologies and platforms and creating encounters with new ideas, cultures, experts, academics and students from around the world.
Under The VSE Seasons system, academic courses offered are put into different seasons. Each VSE academic year would begin in September, and end in August of the following year.
There are three seasons in each VSE academic year;
Season 1 (September to December),
Season 2 (January to April) and
Season 3 (May to August).
There are various kinds of courses available, which serve a multitude of purposes for different students, but not all courses can be offered every season. Application is done online by the student during designated period only and before completing the application, students should check the home university policies for application procedures and credit transfer.
Chulalongkorn University has cooperated with the member universities of the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) network to offer the “APRU Virtual Student Exchange (VSE) Program” to undergraduate students of the APRU members from all around the world. The program aims to provide them with the opportunity to learn and engage with peers, academics and experts from other countries through a digital platform. Students can take academic courses and earn credits from other universities without an additional tuition fee, except for the regular fee(s) paid to their home university.
Eligibility
You should be an undergraduate student* currently studying in one of the APRU member universities participating the current VSE Season.
*Students during their senior year and want to transfer credits. Please note that it can take around 2-4 months for transcripts from host university to arrive at Chula and additional time for applied towards your degree program and credits to be appear on your transcript. Be sure to review the Office of the Registrar’s graduation deadlines, and complete the credit transfer process as soon as possible. Moreover, if you are studying VSE academic courses during your final semester at Chula, this will definitely affect delay your actual date of graduation.
Q: I am a postgraduate student. Can I apply to VSE academic courses?
A: You can apply to VSE academic courses if it is approved by your faculty/home university. However, your selected course offering university will have the final decision to approve applications from postgraduate students.

Supporting documents for your application:
- [REQUIRED] A copy (scanned/electronic) of your latest transcript (official/unofficial) from your home university. The transcript must be IN ENGLISH and CONTAIN YOUR FULL NAME.
- [Optional] A copy (scanned/electronic) of your proof of language proficiency, if required by your selected course offering university.

*(Chula students) – to participate in APRU-VSE , students must pay their regular tuition fees to Chula for each semester, even if you choose not to transfer any credits.
Applying
Interested students can visit https://vse.apru.org/ to check the course offering. More courses will be added so be sure to check out the website regularly!
You can take ONE or TWO courses within a single VSE Season.
To apply for a second course after submitting your first application, please submit another application through the VSE application system. We encourage you to save one of your two course quotas for a course that is offered later into the Season. Course enrolment is subject to final approval from your home university and the course offering university.
1.) Chula students are advised to inform and consult with your program/faculty coordinator first, about your interest in applying to the VSE program, your transfer credit options and regarding your academic plans. (It’s not a mandatory to have the credits transferred; this depends on students’ choice.)
2.) Apply for a course on the VSE Application System and upload supporting documents for your application. Applicants will receive a confirmation email with application details after submitting the application.
3.) For Chula student, after completing your application, Applicants must forward the confirmation email and notify your program/faculty coordinator to nominating you by complete a nomination through online system via the link attached in the email from the Office of International Affairs and Global Network (OIA).
4.) The VSE Central Office to forward application data and documents to home university to confirm endorsement and ask your home university (OIA) if they would endorse your application. [OIA will confirm endorsement only when we received a nomination from your program/faculty coordinator]
5.) Your endorsed application will be sent to the course offering university after its specified application deadline. The course offering university will review your application and decide if they would approve/accept your application.
6.) Once your application is approved, you will be notified of the result through email from the VSE Central Office and provided with further registration procedures by the course offering university.
7.) Get ready to study and enjoy international experience class.
8.) Get your transcript and transfer your credits earned.
Be aware and note the deadlines, so don’t wait until the last minute to submit your application!
Fees
Pay your regular tuition and fees to your home university for each semester. No additional fees are required to take VSE courses. Any additional fees, if required, will be detailed under each course or program.
(Chula students) – Students must enrolled and pay their regular tuition fees to Chula for each semester [ Fall, Spring or Summer].
Credits and Transcripts
Most academic courses offered through VSE are credit bearing. Academic credits, if available, will be provided by the course offering universities. Credit earned from VSE academic courses may be transferred back to the home university, subject to approval from your home university or your faculty/program.
For credit-bearing courses, your course offering university may send your transcript to your home university and/or student directly. Certificates of participation or Pass/Fail Certificates are available for most non-credit bearing courses.
For Chula student your faculty must have an announcement of online credit transfer system for virtual exchange student. Please find Chula faculties/schools/institutions that already have the announcement in the list below;
