RCA Regional Office would like to share information on a Scholarship Programme that provides scholarships to students from the Asia and the Pacific region, studying for a Doctoral degree or Integrated/Master’s degree course in the nuclear related field in the University of Science and Technology(UST) in Korea.
The RCA stands for Regional Cooperative Agreement for Research, Development and Training Related to Nuclear Science and Technology and is an intergovernmental agreement established in 1972 under to the auspices of the IAEA. Twenty two countries in the Asia-Pacific region benefit from the RCA.
RCA Regional Office, located in Korea, supports the RCA by implementing various activities including the Scholarship Programme engaging universities and institutes in Korea.
Through this Scholarship Programme, they support young students from developing or under developed countries in Asia and the Pacific in the field of nuclear science and technology in cooperation with the UST.
UST is a world-class science and technology graduate school jointly established by the Government-Funded Research Institutes (GFRIs) in Korea in 2004 to nurture future leaders in the fields of science and technology. Currently 35 GFRIs provide support functioning as Campus and it’s regarded as a successful model of HRD center, leveraging industry-academia-research institute cooperation.
Among others, the RCA degree programme cooperates with two Campuses of the School of Nuclear Science and Radiation, specifically the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute(KAERI) and the Korea Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences(KIRAMS), and its majors include Radiation Life Science, Nuclear and Radiation Safety, Radiochemistry, Nuclear System Engineering and Radiological & Medico-Oncological Sciences. Features and benefits for students include participation in national R&D projects to develop competence in research management, use of high-tech research facilities and infrastructure, opportunity to network with experts in the nuclear field on defined tasks, and hands-on experience at Korean institutes.
The 2024 Spring Semester is now open for application to students from the Asia and the Pacific region. Detailed information of the RCA degree programme is included in the Guideline.
