Testimonials from participants – Civic Engagement 4.0: Training of Trainers for Engaged Social Service in a Borderless World

Ye Lynn Ko – Value of the Mae Sot 2024 Program

“I entered the workshop as a boy, and I left as a well-equipped, skillful teacher. Paying attention, sharing, and caring are very fundamental in this workshop. By doing so, I got comrades and networks to survive even in a chaotic world. Moreover, I got a lot of ways to apply teaching methods in Education. In this workshop, not only the topics but also the ways they deliver them are very remarkable.

But I honestly need to warn the newcomer teachers something. You will need to attend this workshop like an empty container as you have to fill a lot. Make yourself at home and just throw away your work and problems for a while. You should take this as a vacation to explore the whole new educated world. You will witness various aspects like freedom, crises, peace, and my favourite, Co-Counseling.”

Daw Seint Seint Zaw

“I am deeply grateful to Chulalongkorn University, INEB institute, and Civic Engagement 4.0 for organizing such a transformative program. I have consistently recommended Chulalongkorn University and INEB institute to my fellow Burmese students as exceptional institutions.

As a former teacher in Myanmar from 2008 to 2021, I experienced first-hand the challenges faced by educators and students in our country. When I lost my job in 2021, I felt lost and disillusioned. The world seemed indifferent to our suffering, and I questioned the

purpose of my education.

However, this training has reignited my hope and given me the tools to make a positive impact. I am now working to provide educational opportunities for young people throughout Myanmar and especially Karen State, focusing on vocational training and life skills. Knowing that I have the support of my teacher Sir Ted and you, the entire Engagement Training work team is incredibly empowering. I am determined to create a better future for Myanmar, and I dream of one day inviting all of you to visit our beautiful country. Thank you again for everything. Thanks, my teacher. I’m also sending along some photos. These photos hold special memories for me. Whenever I feel discouraged, I look at these pictures and remember the incredible experience we shared.”

Naw May Pearl

“I would be grateful for any opportunities to connect with the international education community and to provide my students with access to global resources.

This workshop was really beneficial for me. I have learned a lot about teaching methods and mental healing. I can feel good about the humanitarian aims. The precious one for me is I had the opportunity to become friends with some really great people. We could build friendships like a family. It really made me feel warm. Thank you for giving me a chance to participate in this workshop. I am truly grateful to everyone who contributed to creating this workshop.”

Thidar Htay

“I am writing to express my sincere gratitude, thanksgiving, and respects for the rare opportunity to participate in the Training of Trainers for Engaged Social Service in a Borderless World in Mae Sot, held from September 22-24 and September 29-October 1, 2023. This experience has had a profound impact on my life and career.

I am particularly appreciative of the chance to meet international educators and to work with my teacher, Sir Ted (Academic Director, INEB Institute), whose knowledge and compassion were truly inspiring. The Co-Counselling section changed me to be a good listener, to listen with my heart. I learned how to be kind to myself and to the others, how to respect myself and others from your manners and this training. You and your team raised me up to more than I can stand on my own.

I am deeply thankful to Chulalongkorn University, the INEB Institute, and Civic Engagement 4.0 for organizing such a transformative program. I have consistently recommended Chulalongkorn University and the INEB Institute to my fellow Burmese students as exceptional institutions.

Thank you once again for this incredible opportunity.”

Ei Ei Ko

“I appreciate Michiko, Ted, Chula team and the INEB team for their efforts for us, in the migrant teacher training in Mae Sot. Before I attended this training, I did not want to listen to others. After attending this training, I knew the importance of listening. I had never learnt about Co-Counselling before this training. I learnt what counselling is from that training and I decided to be the co-counsellor of my friends and my students by listening to their feelings and emotions. I had a chance to get good friendships and to meet good teachers who are always kind to me. We have been counselling with our friends ever since this training although the training has already finished.

In my teaching learning process, I always use all the teaching methods I learned from this training in my class, like Mingling, Reflection Circle, Conversation Circle, Total Physical Response (TPR), Learning with Commands and Actions, and different ways of picking groups.  I was afraid of speaking English before. Ted always motivates us not to be afraid of making mistakes and I got motivation from this training. I also motivate my students, and I learnt how to make better relationships between teachers and students. I learnt how to stay peaceful and positive from Michiko. That was a precious time that stands out in my whole life.”

Win Min

“I hope you are fine. I am Win Min, an alumnus of the first batch of the training. From this training, I got a lot of experience and knowledge. I can control my mind, reduce stress, and know myself what I want to be in the future. Also, I understand people more than before. With your help and support, we all have a brighter and sunnier future. Thank you so much for this. I really want to get another chance to join more training sessions. I want to be a more proficient and outstanding teacher. So, I need a lot of training to be perfect. I hope you will consider all of us to join again”
