Science Tokyo-AYSEAS 2025 Application Open

Science Tokyo-AYSEAS is a joint educational program organized annually by Science Tokyo and partner universities to bring together students from universities in Japan, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, and Vietnam. Through site visits, discussions, and communication with students from different backgrounds, AYSEAS participants learn about and experience the dynamism of rapidly growing Asian countries.

This year, they will visit Vietnam, hosted by Hanoi University of Science and Technology!

Program Duration and Contents

10-day study visit to Hanoi, Vietnam
September 16 – September 25, 2025

  1. Site Visits (TBD: in alphabetical order)
    • Hanoi University of Science and Technology
    • Japan International Cooperation Agency, Vietnam
    • JVB Viet Nam
    • Thuyloi University
    • TOTO LTD.
  2. Discussion: Participants will make several groups to exchange opinions on selected topics.
  3. Presentation: Each group will give a presentation on the final day.
  4. Cultural Exchange: Participants will introduce their local culture to all.
  5. Other: Ice-breaking party and farewell party will be held

Japan – Institute of Science Tokyo
Vietnam – Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology
Indonesia – Institut Teknologi Bandung, Universitas Indonesia, Universitas Gadjah Mada
Singapore – Nanyang Technological University, National University of Singapore
Thailand – Chulalongkorn University, Kasetsart University, King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, Thammasat University
The Philippines – De La Salle University, University of the Philippines Diliman

Requirements

  1. Applicant must be a regular student (in bachelor’s or master’s course) in a member university
  2. Applicants should have ability to communicate in English
  3. Participants are expected to participate in all program activities held in Hanoi and stay in a hotel together. Participants must be able to obtain an appropriate visa and be able to travel to Hanoi.

For applicants from Hanoi University of Science and Technology: If it is impossible to stay in the hotel throughout the program duration, please indicate so on the application form.

Fees and Expenses

Program fee is exempted.
Participants are responsible for the cost of their:

  1. Airfare
  2. Accommodation (breakfast included): approximately VND6,075,000 (subject to change)
  3. Travel insurance
  4. Visa application fee (if applicable)
  5. Personal expenses (meals, drinks, snacks, souvenirs, sightseeing etc.)

Accommodation will be a hotel twin room arranged by Science Tokyo. The bus for site visits will be arranged and paid by Science Tokyo.

How to apply

  1. Application: Students who would like to participate in the program should send an application form to the URL below. An English 500-word essay is required.
    Deadline: Tuesday, May 21, 2025 at 23:59 Japan Standard Time
  2. The Science Tokyo-AYSEAS Office will forward the application forms to the students’ home universities for selection.
  3. The home universities nominate the successful applicants to the Science Tokyo-AYSEAS Office.
  4. After receiving nominations from member universities, the Science Tokyo-AYSEAS Office will send the acceptance notices to each successful candidate asking each accepted student to confirm his/her intention to join the program.
  5. The successful candidates should reply to the Science Tokyo-AYSEAS Office by the deadline (mid-June).
