APRU SDG Education for Global Citizenship 2025
Dignity serves as the foundation and the guiding principle of the United Nations. Since 1945, this concept governs our multilateral system, as it also projects the never-attainable horizon of our action towards the Sustainable Development Goals.
80 years down the line, how does this concept still inform or question our discourse and actions today? Similarly, how should we question related concepts such as “Global Citizenship” coined in the SDG4, in light of the fundamental concept of “Human Dignity”? In view of the complexity, uncertainty, inequality, fragility and risks we witness today in the world, what should be our immediate responsibility in seeking ways to mitigate such risks and in create enabling conditions for the operationalization of such concepts? How should be our methods and approaches in addressing the most pressing challenges threatening human dignity and global citizenship?
Supporting youth and fostering continuous questioning of the status quo of our world is essential in re-shaping our futures for lasting peace and a better planet. The Keynote Panel “Re-shaping our Futures: Global Citizenship for Dignity,” invites experts from across the Asia-Pacific region who have been working tirelessly to safeguard and promote dignity for all to engage with students. The panelists will engage with students on how we could re-shape our futures grounded on the principle of human dignity. They will share their perspectives and questionings through their ongoing efforts, initiatives, and roles in education, research, and policy engagement. It is hoped that as dynamic agents of change, youth can initiate different paths toward a more just and sustainable futures.
