[Call for Applications] Asian Climate-SDG Technology Innovation Hackathon for Next-generation
Tsinghua University, in collaboration with The University of Hong Kong and National University of Singapore, and supported by Asian Universities Alliance and the International Competence Development Committee of the Chinese Society of Educational Development Strategy, will convene the inaugural Asian Climate-SDG Technology Innovation Hackathon for Next-generation (ACTION): Safeguarding Human Health in the Climate Crisis, from May to November 2025.
This hackathon invites students from selected Asian universities to submit project proposals outlining innovative solutions, accompanied by a 3-minute demonstration video. Each of the 5 finalist teams will receive one official accreditation to attend COP 30 in Belém, Brazil AND a scholarship of HKD 20,000 for attending a roadshow in Hong Kong, China.

Eligible participants | 1. Currently enrolled undergraduate/graduate students from AUA universities and 6 other invited universities. Alumni and postdoctoral researchers (3 or less) may join as non-core members. 2. 3-5 members per team from the same university |
Example of some focus areas | – New technologies or materials for protecting the health of vulnerable groups during heatwavesNew temperature regulation technologies or materials for indoor and outdoor environments – New technologies for protecting personal hygiene, drinking water safety, and environmental sanitation during floods and droughts – New health protection technologies for coping with other extreme weather events in Asia – New methods for protecting health from climate-sensitive infectious diseases – New technologies and business models for forecasting, early warning, public education, and commercial innovation |
Nomination | Each invited university can nominate up to 3 teams by sending their documents to healthclimate@tsinghua.edu.cn by 15 August 2025. The required documents include: 1) a project proposal (template can be downloaded on event website); 2) 3-minute concept/demonstration video |
Information Session | – Tsinghua University will hold online information sessions (including hackathon training and Q&A sessions) in June. Professors from NUS, SNU, UTokyo, and UM, among others, will give talks at these sessions. – Students interested in participating are strongly recommended to attend to enhance the competitiveness of their projects. – Specific dates and time will be announced at the event website by 20 June 2025. |

Information Session
Two information sessions (including hackathon training and Q&A) will take place online on Thursday, 19 June 2025 and Friday, 20 June 2025. Students interested in participating are strongly recommended to attend at least one of these sessions to enhance the competitiveness of their projects. More details of the information session can be found in the attachment.
