2025 New Southbound Policy Mandarin & Semiconductor Program

Program Overview

In an effort to encourage outstanding students from the Indo-Pacific to study in Taiwan and explore the diverse culture of Taiwan, the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs initiated the New Southbound Policy Short-term Study Program.

Through this program, students will take AI and semiconductor-related courses along with Chinese language courses provided by National Taipei University of Technology and the Chinese Language Training Center.

Program timeline

July, 2025
Application deadline: 4th July
Online interview: 9th -18th July
Announcement of admission and waitlist: 23th July
Issuance of admission letters: 24th – 28th July

August, 2025
Withdrawal admission and waitlist activation: 4th – 8th, August
Visa application: August

September, 2025
Arrival: 1st – 7th September
Program start: 8th September

January, 2026
Program end: 9th January

Program Curriculum Structure

Semiconductor

162 hours (9credits)
• ICdesign&layout
• Electronicmaterials
• Fabrication technology of semiconductor devices

Workshop

2 days of workshop
• AI workshop
• Design thinking & Sustainability Workshop

Chinese Language

144 hours
• Pronunciation
• Characters reading & writing
• Conversation
• Cultural activities

Enterprise visits

Students will visit famous high-tech companies and Science Park in Taiwan.

Field trips

CLTC will hold field trips, leading students to visit famous scenic spots in Taiwan.

Funding details

Air ticket NTD 15,000 round trip
Living expenses NTD 10,000 per month
Housing NTD 15,000 per month
Student insurance NTD 3,300 (5 months)

Eligibility

  1. The applicant should be a junior or senior undergraduate student at one of the universities in the following countries.
    (India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Philippines, Singapore, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Australia, New Zealand)
  2. The applicant should not be a PRC (including Hong Kong and Macau) passport holder or a Taiwan (ROC) passport holder.
  3. The applicant should not be a recipient of any financial aid from the government, agencies or educational institutions of Taiwan.

  2. Prepare the following docs and upload it to the application form.
    a. A copy of your passport profile page
    b. Enrollment letter of your university
    c. CV
    d.Proof of English proficiency
    e.One page Study plan in English
    f. One minute self-introduction video in English
  3. Applicants who pass the document review will receive a notification for an online interview via email.
  4. Successful applicants will be notified and receive an admission letter from the CLTC via email.
