The Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (BMBWF) has announced that scholarships for 2026/2027 will once again be available for international students, graduates, and scientists.

🌍 Highlighted Scholarship Programme
Franz Werfel Scholarship
Target countries: Worldwide
This programme is designed for highly qualified individuals—preferably those with teaching experience or university affiliation—who focus on Austrian literature.
- Duration: 4–9 months
- Possible extension:Â Up to 18 months
- Recipients who complete at least 12 months may apply for follow-up support programmes
Ernst Mach Scholarship (Worldwide)
Target countries: Worldwide
This programme is targeted the applicants from Ph.D. students, postgraduates, postdocs and young lecturers from universities outside Austria in all fields of study.
- Duration: 1–9 months
- Not possible for extension
Ernst Mach Scholarship (Austrian university of applied sciences)
Target countries: non-European countries (and Ukraine)
This programme is designed for undergraduate and graduate students from non-European countries (conducting a degree Bachelor on Master level) to conduct a research visit at an Austrian university of applied sciences.
- Duration:Â 4 – 10 months
- Not possible for extension
Ernst Mach Scholarship (ASEA-UNINET)
Target countries: Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam
This programme is open to graduates in the fields of music, postgraduates with a master degree (including master thesis), and postdocs with a doctoral degree (or equivalent).
- Currently, applications from ASEA-UNINET member universities in Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam are accepted
- Duration: 9 – 36 months (depending on applicants’ types)
