Chulalongkorn University and Cornell University Explore Future Cooperation in Medical Education and Research
On 11 February 2026, Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat, President of Chulalongkorn University, and Associate Professor Dr. Palanee Ammaranond, Vice President for International Affairs and Global Engagement, welcomed a delegation from Cornell University. The meeting took place at the Reception Room, 7th Floor, Chamchuri 4 Building.
The Cornell delegation was led by Professor Michael G. Stewart, MD, MPH, Senior Associate Dean for International Affairs and Affiliations at Weill Cornell Medicine, and Professor Thanakorn Jirasevijinda, MD, Professor of Teaching in Pediatrics.
On this occasion, the representatives from the Faculty of Medicine also joined the discussion, including Professor Unnop Jaisamrarn, MD, MHS, Senior Executive Advisor for International Affairs; Professor Naricha Chirakalwasan, MD, Associate Dean for International Affairs; Professor Nijasri C. Suwanwela, MD, Associate Dean for Academic Services Affairs and International Education, and Associate Professor Parit Mekaroonkamol, MD, Assistant Dean for International Affairs.
The discussion centered on strengthening existing cooperation and identifying new academic and research opportunities. Particular attention was given to the Cornell–Chula Power Grant and prospective joint initiatives supporting faculty exchange, collaborative research, and the development of medical education. The visit reaffirmed the shared commitment of the two institutions to sustained partnership and international collaboration.
