ERC Synergy Grants

European Research Council (ERC) Synergy Grants aim to support a small group of two to four Principal Investigators to jointly address ambitious research problems that could not be addressed by the individual Principal Investigators. The grants also aim that research projects funded by Synergy Grants should enable substantial advances at the frontiers of knowledge, and have the potential of becoming a benchmark on a global scale.

Eligibility:     

Principal Investigators (PIs)

  • Principal Investigators can be of any age and nationality.
  • Principal Investigators must present as part of the proposal an early achievement track-record or a 10-year track-record.
  • A group must be composed of a minimum of two and a maximum of four Principal Investigators and one of the Principal Investigators must be designated as the Corresponding Principal Investigator.

Host Institutions (HIs) – up to 4 host institutions –

  • Host Institutions must engage and host the Principal Investigators for at least the duration of the project.
  • Host Institutions must either be established in an EU Member State or Associated Country. 
  • One of these Host Institutions, with the exception of the Corresponding Host Institution, may be a legal entity established outside the EU or Associated Countries or an international organisation.
