Emerging infectious diseases are increasing, causing great lose to both human and animal lives, and large costs to society. Many factors are contributing to disease emergence, including climate change, globalization and urbanization, and most of these factors are to some extent caused by humans. In year 2019, a novel coronavirus was identified as the cause of a cluster of pneumonia cases in Wuhan, a city in the Hubei Province of China. It rapidly spread, resulting in an epidemic throughout China, followed by a global pandemic.

The pandemic COVID-19 has resulted in school closure across the world. Education has changed dramatically since then, with the distinctive rise of e-learning, whereby teaching is undertaken remotely and on digital platforms. The adoption of online learning to replace the traditional classroom have resulted in significant disruptions to education not only in high-income countries, even more acute in middle and lower-income countries, where the advanced technologies are limited and not affordable.

Universiti Putra Malaysia in cooperation with The Association of Southeast Asean Institute of Higher Learning (ASAIHL) proudly presents the ASAIHL CONFERENCE 2022, MALAYSIA (MyASAIHL). In which we believe we can offer a wide range of opportunities for academia, researchers, health practitioners and students to build network with institution, industry and society at the national and international levels. The participants for the conference will comprise of academicians, scientists, undergraduate and postgraduate students from several countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Brunei and many more.

Objectives:

The main objective of the conference is to offer opportunities to the member countries of ASAIHL to share their experiences about on teaching and learning in higher education during the COVID-19 pandemic.  In addition, ASAIHL will have a day of scientific talks on infectious disease from both national and international speakers on day 2.  Through the conference, we hope a better understanding of the evolving social dynamics of emerging infectious diseases, mitigating the challenges while also building a more resilient system that can withstand future crises to be obtained.

Sub Theme:

1. Emerging SARS-CoV-2 variants and the threat: can vaccines and treatments stop the pandemic?

2. Emerging infectious diseases: seeing from the lens of ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

3. Antimicrobial resistance: a silent pandemic?
