SEAC’s Stipendiary Visiting Appointments Scheme

The applications to the stipendiary scheme are now open for academics, currently working on the Southeast Asia region, to visit the LSE to conduct research for up to 3 months (minimum duration 6 weeks). 

The scheme provides a stipend to contribute towards living expenses and return economy airfare (appointees are responsible for their own arrangement of visa, accommodation, and health insurance). 

As part of their visiting appointment, up to £500 for research costs is funded. Visiting Researchers are expected to present academic work and contribute to the intellectual life of the Centre. 

Visiting Researchers will also be entitled to the following: 

  • Access to all LSE facilities and public events 
  • LSE IT Account with access to all electronic resources and databases provided by the LSE 
  • LSE Library card with borrowing rights 
  • Auditing of LSE lectures and seminars, subject to approval of the Teacher Responsible 
  • Shared desk space in LSE SEAC office subject to availability 

The deadline for Stipendiary scheme submission is 1st April 2022. 

In addition, Non-Stipendiary Visiting Appointments are open, applications will be considered on a rolling basis. 

Visiting Researchers part of this scheme will be expected to play an active part in contributing to the intellectual life of the Centre. In particular, they are expected to present a seminar paper or public lecture, produce written outputs, including a working paper and blog, and to interact with the SEAC and wider LSE community. Full guidelines and the application form can be found on the Centre’s website https://www.lse.ac.uk/seac/Visiting-Appointments
