Requirements
TOEFL:
- iBT: 79
- CBT: 213
- PBT: 550
IELTS:
Study in arts, humanities & social sciences subject area, usually require a minimum score of 6.5 in overall band (Depends) with a minimum of 6.0 in each band.
Study in physical science, life sciences, sciences & technology subject area, usually require a minimum score of 6.0 in overall band (Depends) with a minimum of 5.5 in each band.
Notes:
- BALAC program require an overall band 7.0 or equivalent and do not consider TOEFL ITP
- For those exchange students who wish to attend Thai Language programs at the Department of Thai, they are required to submit the Thai language test and be fluent in all four language skills — listening, speaking, reading and writing.
- Please note that each program/faculty has its own requirements which all students have to abide to and they have to carefully go through these requirements. Some programs strictly require a language certificate but for some programs, language requirements are flexible. Thus, the OIA decided to recommend that all students have an IELTS or TOEFL score record as mentioned
Documents
- A student’s passport photo on white background
- Two reference letters from students’ academic advisors
- An official academic transcript (to be issued by the Registrar of the student’s home university)
- An English proficiency score record (for non-native speakers of English)
- A copy of the first page of the passport (The passport must be valid for at least 6 months before its expiry date, and it is advisable that the validity of the passport should cover the students’ whole exchange period at Chulalongkorn University.)
- A student’s Statement of Purpose (SOP) of 500-800 words
- A list of the courses offered by Chulalongkorn University that the students wish to attend (Wishlist)
- A consent agreement with applicant’s signature. (Download Form)
Inbound
How to Apply to a Chula Student Exchange Program
STEP 1: Contact the OIA/OIR @Home University.
STEP 2: Get nominated by your coordinator.
STEP 3: You will receive an application link.
STEP 4: Fill in and upload the documents.
STEP 5: Wait for notification of the result.
*Students are strongly recommended not to make any travel or housing bookings for their exchange until they have received their acceptance letters.
STEP 6: Get ready to leave to Chula.
Fees
Being an exchange student on a valid student exchange agreement, you will have tuition fees waived by the host university [Chula]. However, during your exchange, you will continue to pay tuition fees to your home university.
While participating in the student exchange program, you will be expected to cover other expenses relating to your exchange. All expenses you are expected to be responsible of include the following:
- Accommodation
- Travel Expenses
- Passport & Visa Costs
- Registration Fees / Administrative Fees
- Medical and Health Insurance
- Travel Insurance
- Vaccinations
- Student Uniforms [Undergraduate Level]
- Personal and Daily Living Expenses
- Any other incidental costs
Group Health Insurance Fee for International Students
With reference to the Chulalongkorn University Announcement on Group Health Insurance Fee for International Students, Academic Year 2021, stipulated on June 4, 2021.

Each international students who enrolls in courses or research studies for at least one whole semester or more, will be required to pay Chula group health insurance fee of 2,000 THB per academic year, covering the period from 1st August to 31st July, and for both IPD and OPD patients. COVID-19 is also included.

Monthly rent (Studio 25 sq.m.)
Available in both a single bedroom and a twin bedroom.
– A contract for a 1-month to a 5-month stay: THB 15,000 (~USD490) per month
– A contract for a 6-month to a 12-month stay: THB 14,000 (~USD450) per month
Remark:
1. One-month room deposit and one-month rental fee must be paid in advance (Water and electricity bills not included).
2. Monthly Room – Students must bring the following items themselves: Bedding set such as pillows, blankets and personal belongings.

Inbound Postgraduate Research Student Exchange Program
Exchange students who come to conduct research at Chula under an existing MOU or network.
Overview
Chulalongkorn University Postgraduate Research Student Exchange Program under an existing MOU or network: an excellent opportunity for you to conduct research at Chula, one of Thailand’s leading research universities.
Your research activities at Chula can cover a period of 3 – 12 months. Your research work will be under the supervision of Chula academic staff on a non-award/degree basis, and you are entitled to use the libraries and facilities on Chula campus libraries and campus facilities. (Your ability to join the program is subject to faculty availability and approval).

Inbound Postgraduate Research Student Exchange Program
Before Applying
- Contact your supervisor at your home university and Chula academic staff to find a suitable supervisor and negotiate the dates that you will start and finish your research work at Chula.
- Receive evidence in the form of written support from Chula academic staff, who has agreed to supervise your research.
When to Apply
You may join the Postgraduate Research Student Exchange Program all year round. Once you have prepared all required documents, we recommend that you submit application documents to the OIA/IRO at your home university at least six months in advance before your proposed date starts.
How to Apply
- Contact and submit application documents to the OIA/OIR at your home university.
- Get nominated by your home university coordinator.
- You will receive an application form from the OIA at Chula via email to fill in and upload the documents.
- Wait for notification of the result.
- If the application is approved, you will receive your acceptance letters package.
- Apply for your visa.
- Get ready to go to Chula.
