[Call For Abstracts] APRU Global Health Annual Conference 2023

23 May 2023

Upcoming event

The 16th APRU Global Health Conference 2023 will be held in Mexico on October 25 – 27. The Conference is organized by the School of Medicine and Health Sciences of Tecnológico de Monterrey in collaboration with the APRU Global Health Program. The theme of this year’s conference is “Equity in Health“. It is the first time that the Global Health annual conference will take place in Latin America. Visit the conference’s website for more information at https://aprugh23.com/.

Background & Call For Abstracts

According to the WHO (2023), health equity is achieved when everyone can attain their full potential for health and well-being. Social determinants of health are the circumstances in which people are born, grow up, live, work and age, and the systems put in place to deal with illness. These circumstances are in turn shaped by a wider set of forces: economics, social policies, and politics.

In contrast, health inequities are avoidable inequalities in health between groups of people within countries and between countries (WHO, 2023). These inequities are preventable differences in the burden of disease, injury, violence, or opportunities to achieve optimal health experienced by populations disadvantaged by their social or economic status, geographic location, and environment (CDC, 2023).

The APRU Global Health Conference 2023, aims to facilitate inter-sectoral exchanges of world-class expertise and dissemination of cutting-edge research on equity in health. Key themes include the analysis of the intersection of equity in health systems and access to surgical services, the consequences of health disparities related to migration, and the effects of inequality on the health of indigenous populations. We convene experts from around the world with the ultimate goal of devising possible actions to achieve equity in health.

We are looking for abstracts address the following four topics

  • Health systems
  • Migration
  • Global surgery
  • Indigenous health]

The abstract submission system will be open on the second week of May. Please stay tuned.

Global Health Student Virtual Case Competition 2023

For this international, virtual competition, teams of 3-6 students will receive a challenge relating to a pressing global health problem. Challenge of the Year is Bridging Barriers to Care: Reaching Urban Migrant Communities.

Three videos will be chosen by an international panel of judges for the final round, which will be held as part of this annual Global Health Conference. Click here to find out more information about the case competition.
