From August 29th to 30th, 2025, a Chulalongkorn University delegation participated in the 2025 AI Competency Training Symposium across Belt and Road Universities (2025 ACTS), hosted at the Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School (Tsinghua SIGS). The delegation was led by Assoc. Prof. Palanee Ammaranond, Ph.D., Vice President for International Affairs and Global Network, and Assoc. Prof. Manoj Lohatepanont, Sc.D., Vice President for Physical Resource Management and Information Technology, with participation from Assoc. Prof. Chaiyachet Saivichit, Ph.D., and Asst. On August 29th, the symposium opened with welcome remarks by Prof. Ouyang Zheng, Dean of Tsinghua SIGS, followed by keynote speeches from distinguished leaders, including Prof. Yang Bin, Vice Chairperson of Tsinghua University Council. The session was held under the theme “AI–Empowered Higher Education.”
In his keynote, “From Chalkboards to Chatbots: Navigating the AI Transformation in Higher Education,” Assoc. Prof. Manoj Lohatepanont highlighted Chulalongkorn University’s leadership as “the University of AI.” He noted that AI reshapes rather than replaces professors by helping students ask sharper questions, think critically, and apply creativity and ethics. He also showcased best practices such as the UNESCO AI Competency Framework, ChulaMOOC AI courses, and innovations like ChulaGENIE, DMIND, DeepGI, and AI Hackathons.
The symposium concluded on August 30th with corporate site visits to leading technology companies, including Tsinghua X-Institute, Appotronics, Sangfor Technologies, and Lumi United Technology. These visits provided participants with firsthand exposure to cutting-edge AI applications and industry practices, bridging academic perspectives with real-world innovations.
This participation reinforced Chulalongkorn University’s strategies for International and Integrated Growth while aligning with SDG 4 and SDG 17. Through academic and industry collaboration, the university positions itself as a leader in AI-driven education and global partnerships for sustainable development.
