Chulalongkorn University Joins the 20th ASEA-UNINET Plenary Meeting to Strengthen ASEAN–European Research Collaboration, Hosted by the University of Brescia in Italy
The delegation from Chulalongkorn University, consisting of Assoc. Prof. Palanee Ammaranond, Ph.D., Vice President, and Mr. Supavij Vejpisitpakorn, Head of Global Partnership Unit, Global Networking and Engagement Division, the Office of International Affairs and Global Network, participated in the 20th ASEA-UNINET Plenary Meeting, at the University of Brescia in Brescia, Italy from September 8th to 12th, 2025. The meeting is a prestigious gathering that brings together leading universities from ASEAN and Europe to foster meaningful research collaboration.
This year’s meeting focused on a shared mission: ‘For a Peaceful and Sustainable Development.’ Discussions centered on how universities can contribute collective efforts to address pressing global challenges aligned with the United Nations 2030 Agenda.
To spark deeper collaboration, participants joined five dynamic working groups:
1. Digital Humanism and Arts in Academia,
2. Ocean Sciences and Climate Change,
3. Renewable Energy,
4. Global Health and Sustainable Food Production, and
5. Ecological Economics/ Bioeconomy.
The event began with a warm welcome from Prof. Roberto Randi, President of ASEA-UNINET. Inspiring contributions followed, including ‘Perspectives of European–ASEAN Academic Cooperation’ by Mr. Christoph Wayu Niederhauser, Team Lead Cooperation at OeAD – Austria’s Agency for Education and Internationalization, ‘Funding Opportunities Beyond ASEA-UNINET’ by Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Obenaus, Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU), and ‘Thailand Scholarship for Austrian Students (ASEA-UNINET)’ by Dr. Luksmon Smansin, Director of International Affairs Division, Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, Thailand., etc.


The meeting not only opened new channels of dialogue but also strengthened long-term academic partnerships. For Chulalongkorn University’s students, faculty members, and researchers, this meeting marks as a milestone for greater opportunities to obtain European research grants and international collaboration.
