ERC Starting Grants 2025
The call for ERC Starting Grants 2025 is now open. The ERC Starting Grants aim to support a talented early-career scientist/researcher of any nationality who is ready to work independently and shows potential to be a research leader as well as intends to conduct their independent research team or programme in the EU Member State or Associated Country.

Eligibility:
- Principal Investigator (PI) may be of any age and nationality and may reside in any country in the world at the time of the application.
- The PI shall have successfully defended their first PhD at least 2 and up to 7 years prior to 1 January 2025.
- Cut-off dates: Successful defence of PhD between 1 January 2018 and 31 December 2022 (inclusive).
- Research must be conducted in a public or private research organisation (known as a Host Institution/HI).
- The PI can be hosted by any legal entity in an EU Member State or associated country.
Notes:- Any type of legal entity, public or private, including universities, research organisations and undertakings can host Principal Investigators and their teams.
- The PI do not need to be employed by the HI at the time of proposal submission, but a mutual agreement and commitment are necessary if the proposal is successful.
- All PIs funded through an ERC Starting Grant must spend a minimum of 50% of their working time in an EU Member State or Associated Country and a minimum of 50% of their working time on the ERC project.
- Applications for an ERC grant require a single Principal Investigator (PI) to submit the application on behalf of their host institution.
- ERC grants support projects carried out by an individual researcher who can employ researchers of any nationality as team members. It is also possible to have one or more team members located in a non-European country.
